Strategies for UV Mapping Hard Surface Models

Strategies for UV Mapping Hard Surface Models

In this extensive and detailed tutorial you will learn strategies that will enable you to quickly unwrap all kinds of hard surface models with the minimum of effort.

Modo has an excellent toolset for UV mapping, which is centered around a small number of key tools which are quick and easy to use. Once you know how to use the UV mapping features there is very little manual intervention required, meaning that many unwrap tasks can be carried out automatically. For those times when manual intervention is required, you will learn the right techniques to achieve the best results in the minimum of time.

In the course of this video you will learn how to unwrap a large variety of different hard surface shapes, starting with simple meshes and gradually increasing in complexity as the tutorial progresses, until very complex models are unwrapped. With the knowledge learned in the video you will be able to tackle any UV mapping task with complete confidence, and learn many time-saving tips on the way.

Creating good UV maps is the foundation to good texturing, and with clean and distortion-free UV maps that have the minimum of seams you will be able to texture more effectively, allowing you to maximise the resolution of your textures across your models and also have the most flexibility in your texturing workflow. The course will also demonstrate how to work with UDIMS for those times when you need the most resolution possible.

So if you want to improve your UV mapping skills and increase your speed and efficiency in this difficult stage of the 3D process, this video will demonstrate a fast and easy workflow that will allow you to tackle even the most difficult models.
