AMD Threadripper | Artist Impressions

AMD Threadripper | Artist Impressions

Hey fellow Fonduers! I've recently had the privilege to test out AMD's Threadripper CPU and I wanted to share my experience here in this blog post. First, I want to state that AMD provided me with the PC and is sponsoring the content I produced.

My objective was to take an artist's look at how the Threadripper would help me in my everyday tasks. I worked on taxing the CPU with multiple processes that are typically CPU intensive such as rendering, video encoding and texture baking. I've found that the Threadripper has been nothing short of amazing, truly "ripping" through the tasks that I have been throwing it's way.

Please take a look at the following videos for an overview of my experience with the Threadripper as well as pick up some texturing techniques.

SPECS:

CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950x 16-Core 3.40 GHz (Zen)

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

RAM: 128 GB

PROCESSES:

Rendering: Arnold 5 (CPU)

Baking: Substance Painter (CPU Bakers at 4K) Normal, Ambient Occlusion and Thickness

Video Encoding: Camtasia

Substance CPU Engine processing

CPU Temperature ran at 43°C - 75°C where at full CPU load was 74°C.
