Mesh Operators in Modo - Part 3 Advanced Mesh Ops
In this tutorial the focus moves from merely using the Mesh Ops system to actually creating your own Mesh Op tools. The process is described in detail, and after watching the training you will be able to build your own tools with confidence. Because the process is node-based, it is very artist-friendly and requires very little in terms of technical skill, there is no advanced mathematics or coding necessary, just visual flow programming by means of connecting nodes in Modo's Schematic view. Once familiar with the process artists at any level of ability will be able to build their own custom tools this way.
The tutorial consists of three extensive step-by-step demonstrations that walk you through how to build three separate tools: a window frame generator, a tiled floor generator, and a greeble generator (the last of which was used to create the space station in the promo image). These tools are useful in themselves and can be of help in many workflows and, more importantly, the skills you will learn can be adapted to the creation of any tool of your own choosing, so that you will have the skills to build your own custom tools to speed up your own work.
After watching this training you will have deep and detailed knowledge of Modo's procedural system, with a thorough understanding of the more technical side of Modo, which is powerful and flexible but still accessible to artists because of its nodal approach. This will open up opportunities to work in more efficient ways and save time by knowing how and when to use procedural tools instead of the more traditional destructive toolset.
The things you will learn in this video about the procedural system and the Schematic View will not only benefit your technical skills and allow you to build your own tools and assemblies, but they will also translate over into other areas of Modo such as modelling and rigging. And as Modo's procedural system grows you will be perfectly equipped to keep up with it due to the foundational knowledge gained from this training.
If you are already comfortable with Mesh Ops in Modo then this training is sure to show you some new techniques, and is ideal for intermediate or advanced users and users who have already watched my earlier Mesh Operators in Modo courses.
